How we make our pages

Who writes and reviews

Every guide and printable page is reviewed and edited by Carissa Spisak before it goes live, and carries her byline. She adds her own notes and changes anything that doesn’t match how families really use these tools. We never publish under an invented name, and we never say a page was “reviewed by” someone who didn’t review it.

We publish at the pace Carissa can review, not the pace we can write. A draft waits until she has read it.

How we use AI tools

• Writing. We use AI writing tools to help research and draft pages. A draft is a starting point: Carissa checks it against the sources, rewrites it in plain words and adds what only she knows.
• Pictures. The pictures on our printables start as drafts made with AI image tools. We choose each one by hand, check that it means what its word says, and reject anything unclear. Every Etsy listing says so too.
• Never on its own. Nothing written or drawn by an AI tool is published without a person reading or looking at it first.

What we write about, and what we don’t

We write about everyday tools for home: picture schedules, routines, communication boards, memory books and how to set them up and use them. We describe what a printable contains and how people use it, never what it will achieve.

We do not write about diagnosis, prognosis, medication, swallowing safety or when to seek care unless a currently licensed professional has reviewed the page and is named on it with their credential and the review date. Until then, those topics are not on this site.

Sources

Guides list their sources at the end. We prefer professional associations, government health sites and published research, and we link to the original rather than to a summary of it.

Dates

Each guide shows when it was first published and when it was last reviewed. We change the date only when the page really changes, never to make an old page look new.

Reviews and testimonials

We don’t publish testimonials, and we don’t quote reviews that describe what happened to someone after using a printable. Every family is different, and a story about one person is not a promise to another.

Money and independence

Doctor Carissa earns money by selling printables on Etsy. No one pays us to write about their product. If we ever link to a product and earn a commission, the page will say so next to the link.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, email hello@doctorcarissa.com with the page and what is wrong. We read every message, fix real errors quickly, and update the page’s review date when we do.
